Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn Call It Quits After 6 Years Together

Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have ended their romantic relationship after dating for six years. An insider close to the couple confirmed the news to PEOPLE, as the split coincides with Swift’s ongoing Eras tour, which Alwyn has yet to attend.

Famously Private Couple Kept Engagement Rumors at Bay

Throughout their relationship, the couple remained notoriously private, with both Swift and Alwyn evading engagement rumors. In a previous interview with WSJ. Magazine, Alwyn joked about the constant speculation, saying, “If I had a pound for every time I think I’ve been told I’ve been engaged, then I’d have a lot of pound coins.” He went on to add that he would neither confirm nor deny the rumors, as he prefers to keep his personal life out of the public eye.

Their Mature and Wonderful Relationship

Swift and Alwyn began dating in 2016, with a source telling PEOPLE that Swift is very happy in their relationship, calling Alwyn her rock. Despite their relationship being kept out of the spotlight, they have collaborated on music together, with Alwyn co-writing several songs under the pseudonym William Bowery. Their collaboration on Folklore and Evermore, two of Swift’s sister albums released during the pandemic, earned them a Grammy Award. During her acceptance speech, Swift gave a shout-out to Alwyn, stating, “Joe is the first person that I play every single song that I write, and I had the best time writing songs with you in quarantine.”

Sad Songs and Low-Key Love

Swift and Alwyn have always bonded over their love of sad songs and have collaborated on several tracks that reflect this mutual interest. Many of the songs on Swift’s 2017 album Reputation, such as “Gorgeous,” “Call It What You Want,” and “Delicate,” appear to have been inspired by their low-key relationship. Despite this, the couple kept their relationship under wraps, with Alwyn stating that he prefers to keep his personal life out of the public eye.

Moving On

As the news of their split makes its way to the public, Swift will continue her sold-out Eras tour, and Alwyn will remain focused on his acting career. While the breakup comes as a surprise to many fans, it is clear that both parties value their privacy and will continue to keep their personal lives out of the spotlight.
